Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 met with four professionals during break-out sessions where competent, fulfilled presenters discussed their career paths. There was an opportunity for formal presentations, as well as, more relaxed interactions with candid questions asked of the presenters at the Career Day Inc.™ event. The assembly portion of the day, hosted by Phil Rugile of LaunchPad Huntington, featured Debbi Honor of of Hofstra University who gave students tangible information about potential challenges in selecting a career focus and the need for curiosity, confidence and creativity when thinking about a career path. A networking luncheon, sponsored by the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce, provided another platform for students to speak with professionals and also for professionals to network with each other.

One thing that was particularly special about the event at OBHS, was the participation of Oyster Bay High School alumni. These alumni really gave the students a tangible connection to where they might be able to go in their futures. An example of the alum’s dedication and impact of past scholarships was seen when a student who attended an aeronautical training program and became a commercial pilot after being a recipient of the Arie A. Bucheister Memorial Scholarship took time out of his busy schedule to fly in just for this event!
